Huffington Post: 15 Minutes With David Duchovny - July 31, 2014

It's a hot day in Los Angeles, and I'm running late. I'm rushing to LAX to catch a flight to the east coast and getting ready to interview Golden Globe-winning actor David Duchovny for his latest film Louder Than Words, the true and inspirational story of a married couple (played by Duchovny and the wonderful Hope Davis) who, following the tragic death of their youngest daughter, set out to open a children's hospital in her honor. Duchovny is as impressive in this role as a grieving father as he was playing FBI Special Agent Mulder on Fox's The X Files or beautifully damaged novelist Hank Moody on Showtime's Californication.

David Duchovny is a fantastic actor, but that's not why he scares me. I've been writing about fantastic actors for years. I'm scared of writing about David because he has a BA in English Literature from Princeton and a Master's in English Literature from Yale. He's a brilliant guy, and I'm intimidated by the thought of him reading this blog post and honing in on all my weak spots.

People: Behind the Real-Life Family Tragedy That Inspired David Duchovny’s New Movie

In his new movie Louder than Words, David Duchovny cries, grieves and, in the end, triumphs.

Behind his nuanced performance is the true story of a Connecticut family whose unimaginable loss is depicted in the film, which hits big screens nationwide Thursday.

Brenda and John Fareri's lives changed one night in 1995 when their daughter, 13-year-old Maria, complained of feeling achy, feverish and tired. There was talk of the flu. Their pediatrician told Brenda to keep an eye on her. But when her symptoms began to interfere with her schoolwork – Maria was a newly minted eighth-grader with straight As – Brenda, a nurse, whisked her daughter straight to the hospital. "She had really deteriorated," she tells PEOPLE of that night.

Documents: Was David Duchovny's Family From Ukraine or Russia?

There's been quite a fuss about a nationalistic, Russian beer commercial David Duchovny made not long ago -- especially given that he recently discovered that his roots are actually in Ukraine. For obvious reasons, this is less than ideal timing. As a genealogist who also has Ukrainian roots, but grew up being told she was Russian (Smolenyak -- we must be from Smolensk, of course!), I decided to take a look into the specifics of Duchovny's case.

It doesn't take much effort to learn that his grandfather was Moshe Duchovny, but that's where things start to get challenging. If you search Ellis Island records for likely candidates, a couple with similar names pop up, but their ages and years of arrival don't match what's known about David's grandfather. That's because the real Moshe Duchovny is well hidden since his name was badly distorted on his passenger arrival record, possibly because he and his father Abraham embarked in Greece where names like theirs would have been unfamiliar (in spite of the popular myth that names were deliberately altered at Ellis Island, officials there mostly verified lists created at the point of departure).

David Duchovny's Russian Beer Ad Goes Viral

The commercial, featuring the slogan, 'You [Russians] have something to be proud of,' attracted over 1.7 million views in the first 4 days.

Featuring the slogan, "You [Russians] have something to be proud of," the commercial was published last Friday on the YouTube channel of the beer brand Sibirskaya Korona (Siberian Crown), manufactured by Sun InBev. It advertises a non-alcoholic kind of Siberian Crown beer.

The Russian business daily Vedomosti reported that Duchovny was chosen to be featured in the commercial based on a Russian focus group and was second on the list after Leonardo DiCaprio. He came out ahead of Vincent Cassel and Johnny Depp.

The report estimated the budget of the commercial, which hasn't been disclosed, to be about $1.5 million, of which $1 million was Duchovny's fee.

David Duchovny: Beer commercial is not a political statement

David Duchovny says his beer commercial musing about living his life as a Russian does NYET mean he supports Russian politics -- especially the invasion of the Ukraine.

Duchovny's statement to TMZ comes in the middle of a flurry of criticism over his commercial for a Russian Siberian beer -- Siberian Crown. Duchovny wonders in the spot what his life would be like if he was Russian .... fantasizing about being a cosmonaut, a ballerina, and other Russian stuff.

Chris Sheffield about "Aquarius"

Chris Sheffield plays David Duchovny's son in Aquarius.

TV Goodness: I just read that you are doing a show with David Duchovny. Can you just briefly tell me anything about that?

Chris: Yeah, I can’t really discuss much storyline. I started yesterday and I play David Duchovny’s son on NBC’s Aquarius and the show follows David playing a cop in the ’60s who is chasing down, who we come to find out is Charles Manson. It’s a very gritty show for NBC. It’s so well written. And David character’s has a very complicated family life as well and that’s kind of where my character comes into play. I’m very excited about that as well. I believe that comes out in 2015.

Aquarius NBC Casting News: Michaela McManus, David Meunier, Chris Sheffield and Gaius Charles

The 13-episode drama Aquarius, created by John McNamara (In Plain Sight), is set in the 1960s and stars Duchovny as Sam Hodiak, a Los Angeles police sergeant investigating a then-unknown Charles Manson. McNamara exec produces alongside Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Alexandra Cunningham, Jonas Pate, Melanie Greene and Duchovny, with Pate on board to direct.

Grey’s Anatomy alum Gaius Charles is joining NBC’s Charles Manson-themed event series Aquarius in a recurring role. Charles, who wrapped up his two-year Grey’s stint in May, will play Bunchy Carter, a former gang-banger who is now a fanatical Nation of Islam adherent whose hatred of the white man is evident. He preaches his isolationist doctrine in the inner city — and those who don’t adhere to his teachings are routinely threatened and intimidated. He has a run-in with his old nemesis, Hodiak (Duchovny), who uses some harsh tactics to ensure Bunchy’s “cooperation.”

David Duchovny Will Inspire You to Read with 'Holy Cow'

The countdown to February 3, 2015 is officially on.

The description of David Duchovny’s upcoming book Holy Cow: A Modern-Day Dairy Tale has been released, and it describes what can only be seen as a truly magnificent piece of art. The former X-Files and Californication star has written a book he previously described to Rolling Stone as “a kids’ book and an adult book…a fable, like Animal Farm or Charlotte’s Web; an allegorical story using animals for people.”

OK, so that sounds intriguing, but plenty of famous people have tried self-indulgent projects outside their normal area of expertise and failed miserably. What’s to say this would be any different?

David Duchovny Talks Wilco-Influenced Debut Album, Marilyn Manson Duet - July 2014

The actor also intends to put out his first book, a fable, next year

David Duchovny, who recently said goodbye to his show Californication, will be making a foray into music when he releases his debut album next year. And even though he recently tweeted a since-deleted picture of himself playing guitar with Marilyn Manson, he says his music would be more beautiful than "Beautiful People." "I can only compare my music to artists that you know, so it's going to sound like I'm bragging," the actor tells Rolling Stone. "But in my wildest dreams, I would sound like Wilco or R.E.M. I'd put it somewhere in there – if I'm lucky."
