THERE are only two reasons to go to Hollywood Boulevard: to see the stars or to buy drugs. David Duchovny fans can now do both at once. His star on the Walk of Fame (the 2,572nd), which I watched being unveiled two weeks ago, sits in the midst of the dope dealers and a few feet from the Smoke House, a shop specialising in hookah pipes, vaping kit and anything you might need to satiate the munchies.

I realise how fitting this is when I meet Duchovny in a Los Angeles hotel a little later on. I find a man so monosyllabic and monotone that he appears either to have been smoking heavily or to be on the brink of falling asleep. In fact he is just tired.

Holy Cow: David Duchovny Novel to Get Animated Holiday Special

Planet Grande Pictures and animation studio Cuppa Coffee have teamed up to produce a stop-motion version of actor David Duchovny’s novel Holy Cow.

The title will be produced as a musical holiday special for 2016. Billy Frolick (Madagascar) is set to pen the script. Duchovny, of The X-Files and Californication fame, published the book earlier this year.

David Duchovny, best-known for his portrayals on TV of Fox Mulder on The X-Files, and Hank Moody on Californication, is finally where he originally thought he would end up: as a writer. Holy Cow, his “charming fable about dignity and tolerance, complete with anthropomorphized animals, and replete with puns, double-entendres and sophisticated humor,” (Kirkus Reviews, starred) came out in February from Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Oh, and there’s a cow named Elsie Bovary.

Duchovny, who will talk about and sign his book in the Macmillan Meeting Room (3139) today at 2 p.m., took a few minutes to speak with Beth Levine for Show Daily at BookCon.

In Los Angeles, LAPD Detective Sam Hodiak (David Duchovny) is having trouble adjusting to the change in the mores in the world he and the Greatest Generation saved from fascism 20 years previously during World War II.

That is the backdrop for NBC's new summer series Aquarius, premiering May 28th, a work of historical fiction in which Hodiak solves crimes, and while doing so, encounters Charles Manson (Gethin Anthony), who is just beginning to become the Pied Piper and two years later will convince his followers to commit the heinous Tate-LaBianca murders.

NBC's "Aquarius" transports hippies, flower power, free love and a budding psychopath named Charles Manson to prime time.

More significant for network TV watchers, "Aquarius" marks the dawning of the new age of David Duchovny.

The drama, premiering Thursday, is a return to broadcast for the actor who first shot to stardom on Fox with the iconic sci-fi series "The X-Files" and then leaped to cable, spending seven seasons on Showtime's racy "Californication" as a troubled, alcoholic writer grappling with life and family difficulties.
