Kim Cattrall, Kelsey Grammer, Johnny Flynn, Jason Watkins and David Duchovny tell the story of America’s CIA from the inside out in series three of BBC Radio 4’s award-winning audio drama Central Intelligence.
Kelsey Grammer joins the stellar cast for series three to play President Lyndon B Johnson, with David Duchovny starring as Bill Colby, the CIA’s Far East Chief during this time.
Told through the eyes of CIA operative Eloise Page (Kim Cattrall), who joined on the CIA’s first day in 1947 and rose through the ranks to become one of its most powerful women, Central Intelligence explores the pivotal moments that shaped the world as we know it today. Series three begins in 1964 and takes listeners from the assassination of President Kennedy through to the tenure of President Johnson, where the CIA is drawn into Vietnam, Che Guevera, protest, paranoia and the hidden battles that define the sixties.
From Chile and British Guiana to Vietnam, the Dominican Republic, the Middle East and the Bolivian jungle, the Agency is fighting communism on every front. But as America turns against the war, the enemy begins to look closer to home. Presidents demand answers. Directors come and go. Richard Helms (Johnny Flynn) rises. Bill Colby (David Duchovny) emerges. Eloise Page watches the CIA embrace satellites, surveillance, covert war – and, in one extraordinary case, the services of a cat in Operation Kitty.
Central Intelligence is part of the BBC’s Limelight strand of unmissable drama serials. The new ten-part series begins on Friday 10 July at 2.15pm on BBC Radio 4 and as a boxset on BBC Sounds. It is a Goldhawk production for BBC Radio 4.
