David Duchovny Sold His Malibu Home for $11 million - June 27, 2025

Online outlets can confirm the ultra-modern Point Dume pad sold for a pretty penny ... though it's more than a million bucks less than its original $12.5 million listing price.

David Duchovny, the star of the long-running sci-fi drama “X-Files,” has sold his Malibu, California, home for $10.98 million.

The 64-year-old actor, who also starred in the “Californication” TV series, has let go of the Point Dume pad designed for al fresco living that he built for himself and his family. He sold it with Compass Real Estate agent Chris Cortazzo, who also represented the buyer.

According to Cortazzo, Duchovny’s two children have “outgrown the house.” He will be moving elsewhere in Southern California, but has not yet decided where. The house, which listed on the market in April, sold for $1.6 million less than its list price, according to records.

“We’re getting busier in Malibu,” Cortazzo said. “The Pacific Coast Highway is open and the city center is intact.” The highway reopened in May after a period of closure due to the January wildfires in Pacific Palisades.

The buyer could not be determined from public records, but Cortazzo said that they were most drawn to the property’s Point Dume lifestyle, the private beach access and proximity to good schools.

“Malibu offers a clean lifestyle,” he said. As for the house itself, the buyer was inspired by the architecture and its single-story floorplan, which Cortazzo said people are especially drawn to.

Duchovny purchased the property and its “old house” in 2016 for $4.75 million and spent $7 million building the new property with architect Michael Kovach, according to Cortazzo. The final house 3,580-square-feet, three-bedroom house completed in 2021.

He found a train car on the property and repurposed it into a private guest retreat away from the main house. It has a wooden, cozy living and sleeping area, a dining nook and kitchen. The actor used the area as an artist retreat where he wrote his book and recorded his podcast, according to an article in The Wall Street Journal at the time of its listing.

“It’s one of the things I’m most proud of that I’ve ever developed in my life,” Duchovny told The Wall Street Journal.

“My favorite space in the home has always been the great room,” Duchovny said in a news release about the sale. “In New York, everything feels more closed off, so I really appreciated the open-concept design and the natural light here,” said the actor who lived in New York before moving West.

A representative for Duchovny didn’t immediately return a request for comment.

The great room has smooth cement floors and high ceilings. Highlight windows and pivoting floor to ceiling doors which “bathe the open-concept living space in natural light,” according to the listing. “A wall of pivoting glass doors dissolves the boundary between indoors and the lush backyard.”

Its interiors, modern furnishing with vintage and bohemian touches, were designed by Vanessa Alexander.

The primary suite in the house has double-vanity en-suite with a freestanding soaking tub and a steam shower. The suite opens up to the outdoor areas which hold a pool, hot tub, cold plunge, sunken fire pit and outdoor kitchen.

A separate structure adjacent to the house, right by the pool functions as the gym and office.
