David Duchovny Speaks ‘Louder Than Words’ and Its Inspiration

The indie film “Louder Than Words” tells the real-life story of how the rabies death of 13-year-old Maria Fareri spurred her family to build a state-of-the-art children’s hospital that allows parents to be part of the healing process.

The film stars David Duchovny and Hope Davis as Maria’s parents, John and Brenda Fareri, and Duchonvy spoke with ExtraTV.com about the experience.

Duchovny explained, “As a parent, that was the key to the whole story. I just related to that kind of devastation, and the reaction this family had that they didn’t just give up. That they moved outward to help others, which I thought was a beautiful story.”

Californication Season 7 on DVD

Californication Season on DVD
Californication: The Final Season:  The last 12 episodes of the Showtime comedy series continue the wild ride that has been the life of Hank Moody (David Duchovny). His portrayal of the flawed novelist has featured enough emotional highs and sexual lows to earn Duchovny a Golden Globe.
Through each season, Moody has tried to adjust to being a New Yorker in sunny California. It’s not been easy. The final season finds him in the writer’s room as his never-released feature film “Santa Monica Cop” has been turned into a television series. In typical Moody fashion, he has trouble getting along with the other writers.

Variety: Film Review: ‘Louder Than Words’

Hope Davis and David Duchovny give solid, moving performances as grieving parents in this inspirational heart-tugger.

An attempt to reckon honestly with a family tragedy and its complex emotional aftermath largely sustains viewer goodwill throughout “Louder Than Words,” the fictionalized true story of how a Westchester, N.Y., couple worked to establish a local children’s hospital in the name and memory of their young daughter, Maria Fareri, after her untimely death from rabies in 1995. Anchored by intelligently restrained performances from David Duchovny and especially Hope Davis as the grieving parents, this well-meaning and reasonably well-handled item retains an emotional sincerity despite its occasionally pat and overly sentimental stretches, ensuring that a good portion of its climactic uplift feels well earned. The pic opened theatrically Aug. 1, following a July 1 VOD/iTunes release that will likely account for most of its modest commercial returns.
