David Duchovny (The X-Files, Californication) talks with Chris and Matt about the early days of The X-Files, a theory that Mulder was the one really doing Red Shoe Diaries, and his character on Californication. David also talks about almost getting his Ph.D., his show Aquarius, and, of course, the new season of The X-Files!
Those big X-Files premiere ratings were no fluke (man).
Monday’s second episode delivered startlingly large numbers too: 9.7 million viewers – and this is the really impressive part – a 3.2 rating among adults 18-49. That’s from airing 8 p.m. last night, so there was no lead-in (unlike Sunday’s debut which had a run-up with the big NFC championship game). In fact, in its new regular time slot X-Files crushed CBS’ Supergirl (1.8 rating) and ABC’s The Bachelor (2.3 rating) and was the highest-rated broadcast program of the night.
X-Files also helped give a strong launch to Fox’s new supernatural drama Lucifier at 9 p.m. (7.1 million viewers, 2.4 rating). Lucifer ranked as the night’s second-highest rated show (despite getting pretty weak reviews).
One day after his X-Files revival premiered, David Duchovny on Monday received the 2,572nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The 55-year-old actor joked about the location of his star — near the Fox Theatre, a historic Hollywood site that’s now a club.
“It’s a strange feeling. I have no idea what kind of movies this place shows,” Duchovny joked. “I have a bad feeling…but I will be back.” Duchovny’s good friend Garry Shandling, whom he met on Shandling’s 1990s comedy The Larry Sanders Show, also spoke at the ceremony.
You can see Duchovny on The X-Files, airing Monday nights on Fox.
