Showtime promises "a beautiful and satisfying conclusion" for Moody

NEW YORK (AP) — The party will soon be over for David Duchovny and the television series "Californication."

Showtime said Monday that the series, which stars Duchovny as overly active Hollywood writer Hank Moody, will conclude after a 12-episode final season that begins next April. That will be the show's seventh season.
"Californication" has steadily gained in the ratings and its sixth season was its most-watched. Showtime didn't give any reason for the series ending.

Showtime President David Nevins says producers have promised a "beautiful and satisfying conclusion" for Moody.

SHOWTIME: SEASON 7 IS THE LAST FOR CALIFORNICATION

Not really news if you've read our previous posts here and here

The dark comedy starring David Duchovny will air its final episodes beginning in April 2014.

The dark comedy starring David Duchovny as novelist Hank Moody will wrap up after the upcoming seventh season, the network announced Monday. The half-hour series will return for its final 12 episodes in April 2014.

Showtime says that the remaining episodes will "neatly wrap up" the lives of the characters on the show, created by Tom Kapinos, including Karen (Natascha McElhone), Becca (Madeleine Martin), Charlie (Evan Handler) and Marcy (Pamela Adlon).

"With its unique blend of lyricism and excess, Californication has been one of our groundbreaking signature series," said David Nevins, Showtime's president of entertainment, in the announcement. "We will always be indebted to Tom Kapinos for leading the creative charge on this memorable comedy, and to David Duchovny for making us root for an unapologetic hedonist like Hank Moody. Tom has carefully planned the final chapter of Hank's journey and has brought it to a beautiful and satisfying conclusion for new and longtime fans alike."

Spoiler: Michael Imperioli reveals his character on Californication Season 7

Imperioli generously took the time recently to sit down during a roundtable interview at The Conrad Hotel in New York City to talk about filming 'Oldboy.' Among other things, the actor discussed how he continuously enjoys working with Lee, with the action mystery drama being their sixth film collaboration, as the filmmaker values his actor input ad opinions; how he built a backstory for Chucky, including the reasoning that he would so readily believe Joe after 20 years, because the two were always friends through difficult times since their adolescence; and how he's always been interested in screenwriting, which intensified when he appeared on 'The Sopranos,' as he wanted to vicariously live all the characters' lives through penning several episodes throughout the crime drama's run.

Q: You're also on the upcoming last season of 'Californication.'

MI: Yes, it's going to be on in a couple months. While I'm just on the last season, it's bittersweet for the people who have worked on it for all seven seasons. But it was a lot of fun, and it's a very funny show. Heather Graham was also on this season, and we had a lot of fun.

I played Rick Rath, a New York guy who used to be a cop, who moves out to Hollywood to become a writer. He's a TV show creator-showrunner-writer who's very bitter because he knows he's doing sh*tty work. But he's making lots of money, so he loves it. He hires David Duchovny's character (Hank Moody) to work on the show, and it's pretty fun.

Californication: Hank's Letter to Karen

Dear Karen,

If you’re reading this, it means I actually worked up the courage to mail it, so good for me. You don’t know me very well but if you get me started, I have a tendency to go on and on about how hard the writing is for me. This, this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to write. There’s no easy way to say this so I’ll just say it. I met someone. It was an accident, I wasn’t looking for it, I wasn’t on the make. It was a perfect storm. She said one thing, I said another. Next thing I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life in the middle of that conversation. Now there’s this feeling in my gut: she might be The One. She’s completely nuts in a way that makes me smile, highly neurotic, a great deal of maintenance required. She is you, Karen. That’s the good news. The bad is that I don’t know how to be with you right now. And it scares the shit out of me. Because if I’m not with you right now, I have this feeling we’ll get lost out there. It’s a big, bad world full of twists and turns and people have a way of blinking and missing the moment, the moment that could have changed everything. I don’t know what’s going on with us, and I can’t tell you why you should waste a leap of faith on the likes of me. But damn you smell good. Like home. And you make excellent coffee… that’s got to count for something, right? Call me.

Unfaithfully yours,

Hank Moody

A Write Teacher(s) Review: Louder Than Words

OCTOBER 15, 2013 Hello Beautiful People,
Less than one week ago I was invited to the world premiere of the film, Louder Than Words at The 21st Hamptons International Film Festival. The press release stated the following:

The film, starring David Duchovny, Hope Davis, Timothy Hutton and newcomer Olivia Steele Falconer, written by Benjamin Chapin, directed by Anthony Fabian (“Skin”), and produced by Anthony Mastromauro’s Identity Films, is based on the inspiring true story of John and Brenda Fareri, who found solace after the death of their young daughter Maria, by channeling their grief into action and spearheading the creation of the world-class Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center through their passion, dedication and fundraising efforts.

Californication: Why does Hanky Moody remain likeable?

What keeps me coming back to Hank is his honesty, self-awareness and lack of hypocrisy.

Image from Californication Season 6
Yahoo TV: Hank Moody is not a man I ever wish to meet, yet alone be around, but he appears to have this quality that makes him ineffably magnetic. He's a misogynistic womaniser who sleeps with underage girls and spends most of his waking hours under the influence of whatever substance he can get his hands on. But there's a reason I still watch 'Californication' after all these years, and the central character has to be a big part of that. I think what keeps me coming back to Hank is his honesty, self-awareness and lack of hypocrisy; he is who he is and does not try to hide, for better or worse.

The Hamptons International Film Festival screened the US World Premiere for Louder Than Words, a moving and uplifting film starring David Duchovny, Hope Davis and Timothy Hutton directed by Anthony Fabian with an original screenplay by Benjamin Chapin. The cast was present to promote the film as was the Fareri family, whose life events shaped the poignant story of how a world renown children’s hospital in Westchester County came to be built despite the tremendous odds against it.

Showbiz: David Duchovny, Louder Than Words

…Before Comic Con last week, “X Files” star David Duchovny was out at the Hamptons Film Festival for the premiere of “Louder Than Words”. The Anthony Fabian directed feature film which also stars Hope Davis and Timothy Hutton, tells the true story of Maria Fareri, who died in 1995 at age 13 from rabies. Her family, rather than wallow in grief, mobilized and started a children’s hospital at Westchester Medical Center in her memory.

Duchovny told our Regina Weinreich: “When I got the script, I knew it was based on true events, thought it was an amazing thing to have happened in real life, not even thinking of it as fiction or documentary, or somewhere in between, not that that’s what the movie is, I thought if the family has the courage or the balls to make this film I can have the same. Everybody is always looking for something that is emotionally true. Most actors are looking for a script like this.”

Duchovny was on his way to Comic Con, where rabid fans are still hoping to find the truth out there. “It’s nice that people still want to talk about The X-Files,” he said.

David Duchovny Refused To Let Gillian Anderson Appear On Californication

David Duchovny won’t let Gillian Anderson appear on ‘Californication’

Actor David Duchovny has banned his The X-Files co-star Gillian Anderson from landing a guest role on his hit TV series Californication in an effort to preserve the memory of their FBI Special Agent characters.

The actors, who portrayed Fox Mulder and Dana Scully for nine years on the cult sci-fi show, reunited on Saturday (12Oct13) to discuss The X-Files at New York's Paley Center for Media, and during the chat, Anderson revealed she's been repeatedly snubbed by her old pal on Californication, in which Duchovny plays a troubled, womanising writer.
She quipped, "Come on, I could have been the Scully-impersonating stripper that you have sex with!"

Twenty years ago, a handful of American households with no better plans on a Friday night gathered to watch a strange, sinister new show with unknown actors and an unsettling premise.

In those first months, The X-Files felt like a secret. Its slight ratings belied the emotions it stirred, bonding viewers with an almost chemical addition. In the days before DVR, the show became a ritual in families. And then, as it slipped somehow past the cancellation wardens and survived into a second season, it became a phenomenon.
