If Mulder invites Scully for another round of late-night baseball when The X-Files returns for its 11th season, David Duchovny won’t be the writer behind the magic.
Duchovny has confirmed that he will not be writing or directing for The X-Files in its next 10-episode season, though that’s not for lack of trying. “I always say if I have an idea, I would love to write and direct it,” Duchovny says.
...Kind of. Mulder and Scully may be returning for even more X-Files adventures, but they’ll also be back for a new one set before the recent revival. (Though still after The X-Files: I Want to Believe.)
The gang’s (almost all) back together.
X-Files creator Chris Carter has finalized the writers room for the series’ forthcoming 10-episode 11th season, and, like last year’s revival (aka Season 10), it’s stacked with franchise vets.
James Wong, best known for his work on the early seasons of the X-Files, confirmed he will write and direct two of the upcoming 10 episodes of The X-Files. Wong's other notable projects include Scream Queens, American Horror Story and the Final Destination franchise.

The announcement for this second event series — which fans will undoubtedly dub season 11 — came late last month, with FOX announcing an expanded 10 episode order over the first event series’ six episodes. It was pretty unsurprising that the show would get a follow-up as the first X-Files event series did extremely well despite some mixed critical reviews.
Spoiler alert? According to this article, Season 11 of The X-Files will be set two years after the events of Season 10.

Here is what he said about the new season of the The X-Files.
Fox has ordered a second installment of The X-Files event series, the network announced Thursday.
The new 10-episode installment will feature David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively, while creator Chris Carter will be back as an executive producer.

“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows,” said David Madden, president of Fox. “And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide. Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”
