David Duchovny explains why he won't be writing for The X-Files Season 11

If Mulder invites Scully for another round of late-night baseball when The X-Files returns for its 11th season, David Duchovny won’t be the writer behind the magic.

Duchovny has confirmed that he will not be writing or directing for The X-Files in its next 10-episode season, though that’s not for lack of trying. “I always say if I have an idea, I would love to write and direct it,” Duchovny says.

Confirmed: The X-Files Premieres Midseason 2018 - May 15, 2017

The X-Files looks to return in January of 2018.


The announcement for this second event series — which fans will undoubtedly dub season 11 — came late last month, with FOX announcing an expanded 10 episode order over the first event series’ six episodes. It was pretty unsurprising that the show would get a follow-up as the first X-Files event series did extremely well despite some mixed critical reviews.

The X-Files returns! Fox orders 10-episode event series - April 2017

Fox has ordered a second installment of The X-Files event series, the network announced Thursday.

The new 10-episode installment will feature David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively, while creator Chris Carter will be back as an executive producer.

The network also released a teaser image
“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows,” said David Madden, president of Fox. “And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide. Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”
