It seems the truth is still out there. At the 2017 TCA Winter Press Tour, Fox honcho David Madden confirmed the case isn't closed for The X-Files just yet.

"We hope so," Madden, president of entertainment at Fox, said about more episodes. "A lot of conversations going on, these conversations are complex but we hope to be able to announce something about that shortly."

More X-Files? "Probably not" says Gillian Anderson - November 2016

Feted for playing an FBI agent in "The X-Files" tackling the supernatural, actress Gillian Anderson has cast herself in the real-life role of an anti-slavery campaigner after being shocked at the scale of the problem.

Anderson said she had been unaware up to 46 million people globally were living as slaves, generating an estimated US$150 billion in illegal profits a year, until she became involved in the film "Sold". "The film is an entry point to the issue. By telling one girl's story it gives voice to the millions of children who are trafficked every year."Anderson, who lives in London, said she hoped "Sold", set for a digital release early next year after limited theatrical screenings since 2014, would help raise awareness of the issue.

TV Wise: Fox Could Order 10 Episodes for X-Files Season 11

EXCLUSIVE: After months of rumours, an eleventh season of The X-Files is within sight. I’m hearing from my sources that Fox execs are targeting a “more traditional” episode order for the new season and that the official green-light is expected from the network “within weeks”.

Sources are reluctant to say much of anything either on the record or on background, but I’m hearing that after hoping to convince Chris Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson to sign on for a thirteen episode eleventh season, Fox senior executives, led by Dana Walden, have settled on an order in the range of 8-10 episodes. (UPDATE: Additional sources are now saying the order will be for ten episodes)

New to the list this year — due in part to the highly-anticipated reprisal of his role as Fox Mulder – is The X-Files’ David Duchovny. His $10 million take during the period analyzed by FORBES was enough to tie him for the 13th spot with CBS’ Michael Weatherly, another newcomer.

WATCH: David Duchovny Interview on "Tech Insider" - April 2016

Did you know that David Duchovny isn't a big sci-fi fan? Despite being widely known as Fox Mulder from the long-running sci-fi series, he's never really been into the genre of books or television. We chatted with the actor/author/director to find out how similar he is to the character, and why he originally didn't even want to star in a sci-fi series.

Ratings: ‘The X-Files’ Rises in Finale

Fox’s reboot of “The X-Files” had a nice bounce back from its low opposite the Grammys last week, growing 14% for its finale and tying with ABC’s similarly rising “The Bachelor” as Monday’s top program among young adults.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, the sixth and final episode of “The X-Files” averaged a 2.4 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 and 7.6 million viewers overall from 8 to 9 p.m., on par with “The Bachelor” for the hour and the night. “X-Files” was Monday’s top-rated program outright in adults 25-54 (3.0/8) and all key male demos.

More than 20 million viewers watched the premiere of “The X-Files” within the first three days of its premiere last month, and the show is tracking as broadcast television’s No. 2-rated drama of the season in adults 18-49, behind only Fox’s “Empire.” It’s unclear, though, if or when the show might return to the network.
