David Duchovy on Beatles Song "Dear Prudence" - May 2017

In Their Lives: Great Writers on Great Beatles Songs - For readers who loved Tune In and Nick Hornby’s Songbook, an anthology of essays from a chorus of twenty-nine luminaries singing the praises of their favorite Beatles songs.

The Beatles’ iconic album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, turns fifty on June 1, and, to celebrate, the book In Their Lives [order here] hits shelves today (May 23).

Edited by Andrew Blauner, the book features essays by the likes of Roz Chast on “She Loves You,” Jane Smiley on “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” Rosanne Cash on “No Reply,” Gerald Early on “I’m a Loser,” Rick Moody on “The End,” Maria Popova on “Yellow Submarine,” David Duchovny on “Dear Prudence,” Chuck Klosterman on “Helter Skelter,” David Hadju on “You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)” and more.

NYTimes: David Duchovny Returns With a New Series, and ‘The X-Files’

“I watch my daughter when she watches TV, and she never turns on a TV,” David Duchovny said recently at a seaside lounge here.

He may have spent most of the past two decades starring in long-running TV series, but he’s still befuddled by how drastically things have shifted over the last few years, as hand-held devices, streaming services and binge watching have made appointment viewing seem increasingly antiquated. “I have no sense of the culture of TV watching,” he said.

It’s hard to blame him for not recognizing the landscape he’s returning to via “Aquarius,” a patchouli-drenched crime drama set in late-’60s Los Angeles.

The show, which has its debut on NBC on Thursday, stars Mr. Duchovny as a detective on the trail of Charles Manson before the Sharon Tate and LaBianca murders. It’s his first top billing in a network series since he played the U.F.O.-obsessed F.B.I. agent Fox Mulder on “The X-Files,” which remains his defining role. (One that he’ll be returning to soon.)

Listen: David Duchovny on Norton in the Morning - May 18, 2015

It’s been a busy year for the “X-Files” star. He talks the upcoming return of the classic 90’s sci-fi thriller, and his relationship with Gillian Anderson with the morning show crew!

What’s his new show “Aquarius” got to do with Charles Manson? “It’s using Manson not so much as the person but more as a symbol…Ok this what happens when the kids smoke pot and they have sex and there’s free love, and they’re gonna eventually kill eachother, and it’s gonna turn dark. This is the underside of the hippie revolution.”

David Duchovny stars in “Aquarius” on NBC this summer.

Hell or Highwater: Duchovny on Inspiration for Album, 'X-Files'

Whether you remember him as Mulder on "The X-Files" or Hank Moody on "Californication," David Duchovny now wants you to give him a try as something else: a recording artist. His first album, "Hell or Highwater" was recently released.

David Duchovny Nixes Gillian Anderson Dating Rumors: Mulder & Scully Are 'Gonna Have To Be Enough'

It appears that X-Files star David Duchovny has really taken the whole “deceive, inveigle, obfuscate” thing to heart.

While chatting with TVLine about his upcoming projects — which include NBC’s Aquarius and Fox’s much-buzzed-about X-Files revival — Duchovny confirms that he’s seen the continuation’s first script and offers this tease. (You might want to sit down.)

“It has Mulder and Scully in it,” he says dryly. “You’re just gonna have to wait. You’re gonna have to wait like everybody.”

Perhaps of more interest, albeit to a certain sect of Mulder-and-Scully fans: Duchovny gently shoots down the notion that he and co-star Gillian Anderson have ever been anything more than the FBI’s Most Unwanted.

“The whole thing about Gillian and I dating is so weird. It’s never happened, it’s not going to happen, we’re friends,” he says. “I don’t want to rain on anybody’s parade, but no, it’s not gonna happen. It hasn’t happened.”

The rumors, which have been present for years, made their rounds on the Internet again last week after Anderson joined Duchovny onstage during a recent concert to promote his album Hell or Highwater in New York.

“I see Gillian, I kiss her hello. She’s my friend. If somebody gets a picture of that, if it’s on stage and she comes up to sing with me, I’m going to kiss her hello,” he says. “I wish the show would be enough. I don’t understand why people want more from Gillian and I. I really don’t.”

He adds: “You can have Mulder and Scully, and that’s gonna have to be enough.”

Documents: Was David Duchovny's Family From Ukraine or Russia?

There's been quite a fuss about a nationalistic, Russian beer commercial David Duchovny made not long ago -- especially given that he recently discovered that his roots are actually in Ukraine. For obvious reasons, this is less than ideal timing. As a genealogist who also has Ukrainian roots, but grew up being told she was Russian (Smolenyak -- we must be from Smolensk, of course!), I decided to take a look into the specifics of Duchovny's case.

It doesn't take much effort to learn that his grandfather was Moshe Duchovny, but that's where things start to get challenging. If you search Ellis Island records for likely candidates, a couple with similar names pop up, but their ages and years of arrival don't match what's known about David's grandfather. That's because the real Moshe Duchovny is well hidden since his name was badly distorted on his passenger arrival record, possibly because he and his father Abraham embarked in Greece where names like theirs would have been unfamiliar (in spite of the popular myth that names were deliberately altered at Ellis Island, officials there mostly verified lists created at the point of departure).
