Forward: Enter David Duchovny’s (Half) Jewish New York, Through His New Novel - April 2016
For both David Duchovny and the protagonist of his latest novel, “Bucky F*cking Dent” (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) literary talent runs in the family. The “X-Files” actor and late-blooming musician is the descendant of several generations New York writers. The son of a Jewish father and a Scottish mother, he grew up in the East Village.
When I sat down with him at Barnes & Noble before a reading he gave last week, I asked, “What’s the most Jewish thing about you?”
“My sense of humor,” he said, without missing a beat.
Mr. Duchovny’s on-screen comic chops are well-known, from his early appearances on the late Garry Shandling’s “Larry Sander’s Show” to his starring roll in “Californication.” But his incisive wit really shines on the page, where he paints scenes so hilarious they might make you spit out your coffee.

Relations used to be cold, but the actor says he now has fun with his co-star Gillian Anderson. Though he has to admit he forgot about their baby
THERE are only two reasons to go to Hollywood Boulevard: to see the stars or to buy drugs. David Duchovny fans can now do both at once. His star on the Walk of Fame (the 2,572nd), which I watched being unveiled two weeks ago, sits in the midst of the dope dealers and a few feet from the Smoke House, a shop specialising in hookah pipes, vaping kit and anything you might need to satiate the munchies.
I realise how fitting this is when I meet Duchovny in a Los Angeles hotel a little later on. I find a man so monosyllabic and monotone that he appears either to have been smoking heavily or to be on the brink of falling asleep. In fact he is just tired.
A new novel by David Duchovny will be released on April 5, 2016.

Ted Fullilove, aka Mr. Peanut, is not like other Ivy League grads. He shares an apartment with Goldberg, his beloved battery-operated fish, sleeps on a bed littered with yellow legal pads penned with what he hopes will be the next great American novel, and spends the waning malaise-filled days of the Carter administration at Yankee Stadium, waxing poetic while slinging peanuts to pay the rent.

Interview: BookCon 2015: David Duchovny on Spiritual Cows, Circumcised Pigs, but Not Cancer Man
David Duchovny, best-known for his portrayals on TV of Fox Mulder on The X-Files, and Hank Moody on Californication, is finally where he originally thought he would end up: as a writer. Holy Cow, his “charming fable about dignity and tolerance, complete with anthropomorphized animals, and replete with puns, double-entendres and sophisticated humor,” (Kirkus Reviews, starred) came out in February from Farrar, Straus and Giroux. Oh, and there’s a cow named Elsie Bovary.
BUCKY F*CKING DENT (2015)
SUMMARY
An estranged father and son come together over their love for baseball during the 1978 season when the Father is convinced the Boston Red Sox will finally win the World Series.
SUMMARY
Set in 1978 - TED FULLAKER (mid 30’s) is now a struggling writer, a.k.a. a long-haired somewhat famous peanut vendor. Ted finds out that his estranged dad, MARTY, has lung cancer via a call from the hospital. Having not spoken in a few years, Marty (a die-hard Red Sox fan), who is also a failed writer, tells Ted (a die-hard Yankees fan) he wants to write a book about his life before it ends. More importantly, Marty tells Ted that he feels this is the Red Sox’s year and as long as they’re up, he plans 'not to die until the Red Sox win the pennant.
Last night we spoke on the phone with David Duchovny, during an interview that was shortened to just five minutes due to the actor's time constraints ("Jen, this five minutes is gonna be so good you're not gonna want any more," he promised at the start). Below is a transcription of that interview, where we try to cram in as much as possible about his career, which we've followed since he first appeared on our television as a cross-dressing secret agent on Twin Peaks.
This Friday, Duchovny's latest movie, Phantom, hits the big screen—the dark, submarine thriller is based on a true story, and brings the viewer back to the Cold War era.
Q: You, Ed Harris, Lance Henriksen and William Fichtner—what a great cast.
Duchovny: You never know when you make a movie. This one, I knew we had good actors, I didn’t know if the story would play because I don’t know if I really understood it. (He chuckles.) I understood why in terms of how to act it but I wasn’t sure if the audience knew enough as we went along to keep them interested or guessing enough or guessing too much, which is always the case in a thriller. Are you giving enough (clues) or too much? So when I saw the movie I was like yes, it’s giving me just enough information and withholding enough, and that was all working for me.
IdentityFilms is the company producing After The Fall. David Duchovny would have a new project coming up as a director according to this tweet. ? ?
