David Duchovny: I Know A Fraud Sports Fan When I See One - April 26, 2017

David Duchovny on CBS Sports Radio

You might know David Duchovny as an actor, but before he ever stepped on a set or memorized a line, he was an avid baseball fan growing up in New York. The son of a writer and school teacher, Duchovny would cheer for his hometown Yankees, despite the fact that they didn’t make the playoffs from 1965-75.

But make no mistake: Duchovny knows sports – and he knows when others don’t.

Telegram: David Duchovny branches out with novel, album, X Files, Twin Peaks - March 2017

A beloved actor wakes up one day and he's a best-selling novelist and a recording star.

If you threw in a few government conspiracies, little green men and a liver-devouring, serial killer that can squeeze into air-vents or a Chernobyl sewer-dwelling "Flukeman," it would seem like a case ripe for "The X-Files."

The only difference is, this is actually happening to David Duchovny, who has gotten in touch with his inner-Hank Moody (at least, the writing part) and has followed his muse to publish his second novel, "Bucky (Expletive) Dent" and release his debut LP record, "Hell or High Water," which he sings his own lyrics and has been on the road to promote.

And, it's not like Duchovny is quitting his day job anytime soon.

Duchovny, Lover of contemporary novels — unless he’s writing - March 3, 2017

source: tumblr
David Duchovny, the actor best known as Agent Fox Mulder on the “X-Files, a novelist, and now a recording artist, once thought he’d be an English professor. “I have a little more than a master’s and a little less than a PhD, whatever that thing is,” he says. Duchovny was recently in Boston for a concert and a reading of his second novel, “Bucky [Expletive] Dent,” which explores family bonds and the rivalry between Yankees and Red Sox fans.

BOOKS: Who were your favorite writers when you were an English major?
DUCHOVNY: At Princeton I wrote my junior paper on Virginia Woolf, and for my senior thesis I wrote on Samuel Beckett. I wrote some about “Between the Acts” and “Mrs. Dalloway’’ but mostly about “To the Lighthouse.” With Beckett I focused, perversely, on his novels, “Molloy,” “Malone Dies,” and “The Unnamable.” That’s when I decided I should never write again. I think it was W.H. Auden who said he was lucky that his first favorite poet was Thomas Hardy, who was a good but not a great poet, because if you are exposed to the greats too soon it can just squash you as a writer.

Forward: Enter David Duchovny’s (Half) Jewish New York, Through His New Novel - April 2016

For both David Duchovny and the protagonist of his latest novel, “Bucky F*cking Dent” (Farrar, Straus and Giroux) literary talent runs in the family. The “X-Files” actor and late-blooming musician is the descendant of several generations New York writers. The son of a Jewish father and a Scottish mother, he grew up in the East Village.

When I sat down with him at Barnes & Noble before a reading he gave last week, I asked, “What’s the most Jewish thing about you?”

“My sense of humor,” he said, without missing a beat.

Mr. Duchovny’s on-screen comic chops are well-known, from his early appearances on the late Garry Shandling’s “Larry Sander’s Show” to his starring roll in “Californication.” But his incisive wit really shines on the page, where he paints scenes so hilarious they might make you spit out your coffee.
