Much like the serial killer at the center of its narrative, NBC’s Aquarius is starting to follow a pattern.
The David Duchovny-led drama, which now holds the Thursday 10/9c time slot, is moving back to Saturday nights, NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke confirmed Tuesday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills.
“David and the talent are really important to us, and we’ll continue to support the show wherever we put it,” Salke said. “We do have to make some schedule changes. But the show’s not being pulled off the schedule.”
When Salke was asked about chances for a Season 3 renewal, she responded, “I think that’s tough.”
The switch-up mirrors a decision the network made last July, when Aquarius was relocated to Saturdays — a night traditionally used to burn off episodes of cancelled fare — despite the Charles Manson series’ Season 2 renewal.
Executive producer John McNamara tweeted the scheduling change Monday.

Aquarius‘ two-hour, ad-free June 16 season premiere averaged 2.7 million total viewers and a 0.4 demo rating, which was up from its Season 1 finale (which did 1.1 mil/0.2) but down from its freshman run average (2.8 mil/0.5).
