EW: Check out a preview of David Duchovny's solo album, Hell or Highwater

The truth is out there… in the recording studio?

David Duchovny, best known for his roles on The X-Files and Californication, is testing the musical waters with his first solo album, Hell or Highwater, due out May 12 on ThinkSay Records.

No one sounds more surprised by this development than the actor himself. “Making this record is a dream come true, but I never had this dream—it’s still a shock when I think about how all this music happened,” says Duchovny in a release. “What I do know is that I feel these songs represent the truest expression that I’ve ever been able to achieve and I look forward to sharing it with everyone.”

All 12 tracks on the album were penned by Duchovny, whose first novel, New York Times bestseller Holy Cow, was released in February. This year has seen the actor branch out into new media, but it’s also marked his return to his TV roots—both on NBC’s upcoming Charles Manson miniseries Aquarius and on FOX’s recently announced revival of The X-Files, which launched Duchovny to stardom in the ‘90s.

The album’s first single, the titular “Hell or Highwater,” is set to be released on March 31, with the rest available for presale on Amazon and iTunes. Check out the preview below.
