'Californication's' Oliver Cooper: David Duchovny 'makes you a better actor'

After the revelation at the end of the Season 7 premiere of "Californication," you can expect Oliver Cooper's character Levon to be sticking around a while. After all, he's Hank Moody's (David Duchovny) other child.

For Cooper, who achieved his first fame through the found footage movie "Project X," working on the show is a dream. "This is my favorite acting job. There's more acting stuff to do," he tells Zap2it. "Getting to act on the same show as people like Michael Imperioli and David Duchovny makes you a better actor."

When he walked in to read for the part, he wasn't quite sure what he was getting into. "They didn't send scripts. They said I was playing a writer that was interviewing Hank. That's it," Cooper says. "I went in there and the casting person said, 'By the way, to give you something else, Levon is going to be Hank's son. Put that in your performance.'"

While that might have thrown off some, Cooper rose to the challenge. After all, he adds. "I was a fan of the show and would have killed to be on Showtime and 'Californication,' especially."

Once he secured the role, it was time to sit down with the cast to actually read through the script. Though the majority of the cast has been together since day one, Cooper says he was welcomes with open arms. "It was easiest group to be around, they are all so friendly, from the cast to the camera guys, to the makeup artists," he shares.

Now, he's at the center of a major story on the show's final season. Not bad for a guy who moved to Los Angeles and landed "Project X" nine months later at his first audition.

"Californication" airs Sundays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
