Californication kicked off season 6 with its biggest audience ever

The dramedy, "Californication" and "House of Lies" all brought in series highs, rising double digits from last season.
The most senior show on the lineup, Californication, kicked off its sixth season with its biggest audience ever. The 1.07 million opener was up a whopping 41 percent from last season's 758,000-strong launch.

Californication,' 'House of Lies' post best-ever ratings


Sunday was a particularly good night for Showtime. After the pay cabler won four Golden Globes — the most ever in its history — the return of its three shows all posted best-ever ratings.

The third season debut of Shameless’ was its highest-rated episode to date: The 9 p.m. comedy attracted 2 million viewers, up 46% versus its season two average of 1.36 million.

The second season return of House of Lies at 10 p.m. also lured its biggest audience ever, at 1.19 million. That was up 43 percent versus its freshman season average. And at 10:30,Californication delivered record ratings. At 1.07 million, it was up 48% versus its season five average.

At Sunday’s Golden Globes, Homeland took the prize for best drama, while stars Damien Lewis and Claire Danes also won in their categories. Don Cheadle won a Globe for House of Lies. EntertainmentWeekly

Showtime’s ‘House Of Lies’, ‘Californication’ & ‘Shameless’ All Return Strong


Californication was also back Sunday for its sixth season with 1.07 million viewers. The 10:30 PM airing of the Hollywood-based drama starring David Duchovny was up 41% from its Season 5 premiere viewership of 758,000. The premieres come on a free preview weekend for Showtime. Being that the network only counts subscribers, the actual viewership could be much higher. Deadline.com
