Phantom - Appeal Against R-Rating

Producers Unhappy About MPAA's Decision

There are already some films out there that take place in a submarine, e.g. Das Boot, U-571 or Crimson Tide come to mind. However, it seems that there are still some stories and investors that make more films with this context possible. The thriller Phantom starring David Duchovny and Ed Harris is one of them. With a budget of 18 million Dollars, little is known about the plot in which a captain of a Soviet submarine has to carry out a mission with a mysterious motive. The first mission to complete is one for the film's producers who are not happy about the "R" rating (for violence) assigned by the MPAA. According to the MPAA bulletin, the producers intend to appeal the classification. It remains to be seen whether they just try to argue or directly apply cuts in order to secure the lower PG-13 rating. We'll see how it turns out. movie-censorship
